If you’re familiar with Campbell/Harris Security Equipment Company (CSECO), the first thing that comes to mind is their Buster density meter, among other contraband detection tools. The Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope System has also risen in popularity since it was first introduced.

The Buster density meter is CSECO’s first device, designed and developed by Patrick J. Campbell with significant input from the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents. Because of its technology – the low-intensity gamma rays and scintillation detector – the Buster has been crucial to thousands of seizures of narcotics and other contraband which are worth over a billion dollars. Even though rivals have attempted to duplicate the Buster, nothing can come close to its ability (not to mention its success) in detecting and locating hidden contraband, even in high-risk areas. That’s why the Buster remains as the “gold standard” of contraband detection.

The Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope is a better alternative to the leading commercial fiberscopes. Owing to its unique design and technology – a 5-inch color LCD monitor (instead of an eyepiece), fuel-safe articulating shaft, and a UL safety certification, among other features – the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope has enabled easier, quicker, more accurate and safer visual inspections.

But what about CSECO’s other tools? They may have received little attention, but they have also proven to be useful, even indispensable.

Let’s look at the CT-40 Contraband Team Detection Kit. If you have read other articles about CSECO, the CT-40 kit is the upgrade of the previous CT-30 kit. The CT-40 kit includes the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope, while the CT-30 includes the FV-Series Articulated Fiberscope. That’s the only discernible difference between the CT-40 kit and the CT-30 kit; otherwise, both have the same contents, including the little known but important tools.

The following lists the little-known contraband detection tools from CSECO that are also included in the CT-40 kit:

  • PN-Series Inspection Probe Kit – a kit which consists of stainless steel probes with grooves at the tip. They are inserted into certain items (like couches or sacks) for retaining or extracting any samples. These probes come in different sizes.
  • Leica Laser Range Meter – it is used to detect false walls as well as hidden compartments, truck beds, cargo containers, trailers, and other spaces with known dimensions.
  • PM-10 Extension Inspection Mirror with High Intensity Flashlight – this tool allows users to see in dark and difficult places such as beneath a car or a truck.
  • CT-40 Customer Carrying Case with Wheels – a sturdy and shock-resistant case which houses the Buster density meter, the Perfect Vision V20, and the other tools mentioned on this list.

CSECO also offers another excellent kit, the CT-PTK Personal Tool Kit, which includes the P-41-PT and P-40-PT stainless steel inspection probes, the MPTS Multi-Purpose Handheld Utility Tool (bolts and screws, files, small scissors, a saw, a knife and pliers), and a flashlight. These tools are stored in a military-nylon custom carrying case when not in use.

Although CSECO’s other tools are not frequently mentioned, they are as essential as the Buster or the Perfect Vision V20 videoscope. CSECO’s little known contraband detection tools increase the chance of more efficient and productive inspections for concealed smuggled items such as narcotics.
